Service Functions and Area
White Mountain FPD covers roughly 125 square miles within the district boundaries as well as
all overlapping areas of Mono County not covered by adjacent Fire Districts. This gives the
district a primary response area of over 280 square miles. The Department protects
approximately 400 households, as well as an elementary school, Tribal Reservation, gas
station, commercial/industrial facilities and approximately 100 miles of paved highway. Hazards
of the response area include:
· Emergency Medical Service
· Fire- Structure, Vehicle, Wildland
· Motor vehicle accidents/extrication
· High/low angle rescue situations
· Hazardous materials
· Flooding
These characteristics present our Fire Department with very diverse responsibilities and
challenges to prepare for. The District has a field elevation of from 4500 ft. to 5500 ft. on the
valley floors and mountains as high as 14,000 ft. adjacent. The major transportation arteries to
Tri-Valley are US Highway 6 and Highway 120
